Detection of police laser is pointless, laser jamming is the only protection
Laser is traditionally difficult to detect with a radar detector as the beam often does not reach inside the cabin to the radar detector. The only real protection (and for superior detection) is an externally mounted laser jammer such as our GF100-AU laser jammer. This laser jammer is hand tested right here in Perth. Simple detection of laser is both difficult and pointless, even if you managed to detect laser, your speed has already been registered before you can blink.
The LTI 20/20 laser gun when targeted correctly, the laser beam does not reach above the number plate or head lights. Positioning your laser jamming transceivers around the number plate provides the best possible protection.
A note about Laser Modules and LED diodes as used in Laser Jammers.
We have seen statements from other suppliers regarding "stronger outputs" and "over powering police lasers" and "Military Laser Modules" and laser modules being much stronger than LED diodes. Some laser jammers actually claim they are 75w lasers which equates to 75,000mW........ again, clearly false. These statements are all made entirely by unqualified and uninformed people. Lasers are capable of generating stronger outputs of coherent light than current LED technology, but far above the power output requirements of a laser jammer. Coherent light is easier to focus into a small spot via controlled beam diversion. An 80~100mW laser is capable of shining past the visible horizon. However, police laser guns use < 1mW laser modules, and the majority of laser jammers actually IMITATE these signals and NOT over power them as falsely stated by various laser jammer resellers. Police Laser Guns are Class 1 or Class 1M laser devices which must be < 1mW in power, which is a very low power output. Actually, its incredibly low powered to avoid damage to the human eye. A typical RED laser pointer pen is 1~5mw and costs only a few dollars. It is easy to match this power with laser modules or LEDs. There are pro's and con's of using either type of technology in a laser jammer. The real test of a laser jammer is how quickly it detects laser, determines incoming laser pulse rate, and returns the appropriate jamming code for the gun that has been identified. Also, for this identification reason, anyone claiming a parking sensor accidentally interferes (or jams) a police laser gun is done so by accident as they share the same frequency of 904nm - is also deliberately misleading you. To jam a laser device, the frequency, pulse rate and power must be matched. This can be done just as easily with high powered LEDs as low powered laser modules. Once again, we can justify this claim 100% as we have both laser power meters and laser wavemeters available for testing. At one inch from a laser jammer transceiver, the power output is approximately 0.44mW @ 900~910nm depending on the jammer being tested.
In the USA, the FDA regulates use of consumer laser devices. They have legal restrictions that limit ALL laser devices to < 5mW. All laser jammers we have tested and inspected are placarded as either Class 1 or Class 1M being < 1mW or a stronger laser that is dispersed to only < 1mW. Even the infamous Laser Star that still claims to be a staggering 75,000mW laser jammer. Technically, using LED technology this radiation output limitation could be surpassed with a stronger jammer as the FDA has no jurisdiction over LED output, however, strength is not a reflection on the quality of a laser jammer. LEDS do not get as hot as laser modules, LEDs require less power to function and are significantly more reliable than laser modules. Laser modules require more power, generate more heat and are more susceptible to damage. The cost of quality LEDs is actually very similar to laser modules when considering special components. LEDs are available that easily produce 500mW at very precise wavelengths.
Alternatively, we have special model GF100s that are equipped with both LED and Laser Modules.
