Frequently Asked Questions;
Q1. Tell me about test drives
Unlike most suppliers, once you open your detector their "100% money back guarantee" does not apply. What point is a money back guarantee if you are not able to use the product? We are so confident in ALL products that we offer, if you are not satisfied we allow you to swap to another product within 7 days and simply pay the difference. Product must be in perfect as new condition with all accessories and packaging to be eligible.
Q2. Tell me about your preferred payment methods
We accept all major Credit Cards including American Express, EFTPOS, Cash in store or PayPal via our online store.
Q3. Is a completely undetectable Radar Detector available?
The only 100% passive designed and stealth radar detector is our DSI Computer. All other radar detectors are built on active technology. A well designed modern detector is significantly less detectable. While most Radar Detectors can easily be detected by the police at 1km away, the emissions of some radar detectors are very different and significantly less obvious than all other Radar Detectors. Most other imported Radar Detectors are designed for use in the USA, UK or Asia where Radar Detectors are perfectly legal. SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE. Some newer products claim to be completely undetectable, but strangely they are also advertised as "non-upgradable." Are they worried about something? Obviously due to the disclaimer included inside the packaging. Check this video to show measurable emissions from one such detector. We offer the Escort 9500ci A inbuilt unit that is guaranteed stealthy by the manufacturer along with the Bel STI XR and the Escort Redline portable units.
Q4. What are the risks of using a Radar Detector?
The use of Radar Detectors is legal only in Western Australia. Suppliers in QLD have been touting possible law changes in WA for YEARS yet nothing has changed. Penalties vary widely between the states. In order to greatly reduce the risk of being fined $1200-$1500 and loss of your license contact us to discuss your stealth radar options.
Q5. How do your Radar Detectors connect to my car?
Most Radar Detectors are supplied with a windscreen mounting bracket and a power cord to connect to your cigarette lighter. Often a direct hardwiring kit is either available separately or included with some products to allow direct connection to your vehicle's electrics without using the cigarette socket. Although sun visor clips and other mounting brackets are available, we do not recommend using other forms of mounting as it can impact on the detection range of your radar detector. Mounting in any other fashion than recommended by the manufacturer is no advised.
Q6. What is the range of your detectors?
This is the eternal question. Some manufacturers will say you get a firm 100m or 500m, 1000m or even longer, but that is impossible to say or guarantee and is a false misleading claim. There are too many variables including, type of speed camera, when the speed trap is actually activated, how many cars are in front, near and behind you, temperature of the day, type of road surface, the colour of your car, other obstacles on or and near road, the amount of day light at the time, is the road straight or bending, is there an incline or decline to the road and how many radar or laser threats are being detected at once. What we can tell you, is that police typically are not legally able to target a car more than 600 meters from their position. With Radar Detectors it is important to purchase a product that you knows functions well in Australia with local warranty and support.
Q7. Tell me about warranty and after sales service and support.
We provide full warranty and support for every product we sell or is sold via our distribution network. Please note that many suppliers on the web are either unapproved retailers or part time hobby operators. If you contact any of the major US manufacturers (Beltronics, Escort, Whistler, Cobra, Valentine etc) most have statements on their web page that they do not sell to international retailers and also do not provide warranty, service or support on their products purchased from unapproved dealers or internet suppliers. If you buy an imported product from an unapproved retailer, you will not have any manufacturer warranty.
Q8. Where is the best place to mount my Radar Detector?
The proven best place to mount a Radar Detector is in the centre of your windscreen, near to the bottom. Yet, it must not be so low that it looks into your windscreen wipers. It also needs clear line of sight to the very front of your car and must be able to see over any hump in your car's bonnet, plus clear line of sight out the rear window. When a speed camera is pointed at your car, it is generally pointed at the space between your headlights or number plate. Placing a Radar Detector on your dash board or high on your windscreen near your rear view mirror can reduce its range. The tinting high on your windscreen will also reduce its range. If you position your Radar Detector to the side of your windscreen, it will greatly reduce its 360 detection and overall range.
Q9. I have a second-hand radar detector, can you help me?
Yes, most of the time. If you have purchased from elsewhere or have a second hand device, repairs and maintenance may be chargeable. We can only provide assistance and warranty support to direct and our distributors’ customers. Similarly we may not be able to supply spare parts for products not originally purchased from us or our distributors.
Q10. How long have you been in the business?
We have been registered as business since 1992 and an Australian company since 1998. We will be here to offer genuine after sales support, service and warranty repair or replacement.
We have a 100% customer satisfaction policy and firmly support each and every product that we have supplied and will supply. A company GST receipt is provided as proof of your warranty and purchase from us.
Q11. Do you give advice on speeding fines or road laws?
No, not only is it not our responsibility, we cannot give any form of legal advice. You should speak with your local Road Traffic Authority or your solicitor. Road laws are different in every state and every country, it is your responsibility to check your local regulations. Some "radar consultants" want to charge you thousands of dollars to act as "expert witnesses" when all this information is freely available on the internet or via freedom of information or on EBay for $9.99 in books titled "How to fight a speeding ticket."
